Elect Bill Fine to the Indiana House of Representatives
FINE FILES FOR HOUSE DISTRICT 12 REP
For Release January 28, 2014
HIGHLAND, INDIANA. William I. Fine filed this week to run as a candidate for State Representative – District 12 in this May’s primary election. House District 12 includes Munster, Highland and parts of Hammond and Griffith.
After years of being personally and professionally involved in this community, Fine looks forward to a new opportunity to use his broad experience and credentials to serve his neighbors. “I am running to protect taxpayers, working families, seniors and the children of our community,” said Fine. “We want to feel that our tax dollars are not wasted and know that our leaders are working for us and not for campaign contributors. We must start sending people to Indianapolis who will represent all of the District’s concerns and not just special interest groups. I look at the successes of freshman representatives like Hal Slager and Rick Niemeyer and I know that it’s possible for Region legislators to be heard and get things done for our citizens. We deserve better representation and I offer that to the voters.”
Fine wants to organize a bipartisan “Region Caucus” to promote issues that are important for the Calumet Region. “We have a large delegation which rarely works together. It’s time to flex our muscles in the Statehouse,” he said. “We’re also the labor powerhouse for Indiana and little is being done to create the manufacturing and construction jobs that this area needs. The road to solving our problems is with good jobs.”
Noting the ongoing debate concerning education policy, Fine says, "I went to public schools and universities and I believe in a strong public education system." He calls for a revitalized Education Roundtable made up of business and education leaders so that the reforms can be fully evaluated and “we give all children the education they deserve."
